I know quite a few of you out there are in the same boat as quite a few of I in here…OLAP and OLTP are running on the same box. You’ve probably tried convincing people that a replicated OLAP server would be better…and when you had one 99% configured, a production server died, and IT snaked your test box for something more important…(that is somewhat exclusive…)
Here is an article courtesy of Simon Hughes…courtesy of Adam Mechanic…that gives a great tip on setting parallelism and why. I too have gone the route of 1 (I tested 0 with the cost at 20) and at 1 the sql processor time is substantially lower.
